Welcome To The Insiders

At OMBE, we're proud to help a worldwide community of surfers in all stages of their surfing, whether that's been a lifetime of surfing or just starting and every skill level. Through community, we are able to dive deeper into the learning experiences that really matter, while also creating the environment that will allow other surfers to grow together. The pain points and struggles you face in your surfing are not exclusive to you and there is a wealth of existing community members either going through those same struggles or have overcome them.

surfing community

Above all, it's a Safe Space

Anyone looking to improve their surfing should be rewarded and not made to feel uncomfortable or kook-shamed. By being in an exclusive open community that provides open and honest but respectful feedback allows everyone to open themselves up to improve their surfing. This ethos of community-based learning, sharing knowledge, experiences and acceptance is the beating heart of OMBE.

The Five Pillars Of Surf Insiders

Not just a community or another surf training program, Surf Insiders is built around five pillars, all designed to help you grow as a surfer. The purpose is to provide a unique experience to allow you to get the most out of the community and actively focus on which parts suit where you are at with your surfing.

1. One % Better Focus Programs

Different than Surf Start and Surf Smart, the programs in Surf Insiders are designed to focus on key areas in your surfing. It's the idea of continually being 1% better and moving towards your goals.

These programs are a deep dive and provide a solution to pain points so you can understand and improve that area of your surfing.

This allows you to focus on one area of your surfing at a time and actually see results and improvements between surfs.

2. Private Surf Coaching Community

Monthly Online Group Coaching, video analysis and interaction with the OMBE coaches
Community based content written by the community for the community

Private 1:1 messaging between community members

3. Monthly Group Surf Coaching

Every month there is an event for the community to submit surfing clips to the OMBE Surf Coaches and jump on live to break down and analyse the surfing. These Insider Sessions will also cover focused topics like improving and analysing your bottom turn. If you can't meet the live sessions, you will have the full replay available to you anytime to catch up.

4. Continually Growing Vault Of Premium Content & Programs

The content and programs included within the Surf Insider membership will continue to grow based on community requests. As you grow as a surfer we will continue to develop new programs and training methods to keep you progressing and having fun.

5. Monthly Surfing Challenges

Sometimes you need a push, something to change the way you see things, another surfer to go with you or to just try new things. Our monthly challenges are designed to get you doing just that, to fail forwards and try new things. Success isn't guaranteed in surfing and it can be frustrating at times, instead we can focus on small wins and anything that works towards that small win, change or experience suddenly becomes fun and rewarding.

Is this the right program for my skill level?

Surf Insiders comes with programs to suit every skill level and you can find the right program to start on or you can ask us for advice based on where you are at.

What order should I do the programs in?

The programs are set up to solve specific problems in your surfing and where you start is based on what you want to work on the most.

Cardboard Surfer is recommended to do before Bosu Surfer and same with Surf Skate Foundations and Surf Skate Advanced.

Can I repeat the programs?

You can repeat all of the programs as many times as you like. They are designed with the idea that you will revisit them over time.

How does the training work? What type of training is it?

The training is a mix of land-based and water-based training drills, as well as theory. The programs will walk you through the theory, establishing a why to all of your training, allowing you to understand what you will be training and how it impacts your surfing. The drills will establish the how, and show you how to exactly replicate the drills.

All of the drills will be accompanied by aiming for the feeling. This will explain when to know you are doing it right or if you need to keep working on the drill. The training is not set out as do X number of reps as everyones starting point and learning process is slower. It is all about do it until it feels natural.

What if I'm landlocked or only get to a beach every so often?

That is fine. all of the programs are created with that in mind. If a program includes water-based training, simply save it up until you have the chance to get to the beach.

How does the land-based training work? Shouldn't I just surf more?

The land-based training is designed to break patterns and add in the repetitions. This is vital in building the muscle memory and neurological pathways to learn and develop skills. The idea is by simulating surfing on land, we can rapidly develop these systems. When we enter the surf, we can further build upon them and allow our bodies to follow the muscle memory we have been training.

Yes, surfing is great but the amount of training in a 2-hour surf is minimal compared to 30 minutes of land training.

How does the water-based training fit in?

After you have been developing the muscle memory on land, you will need to start converting the training to replicating it in the water. The best way to do this is to set on focus and work on one change in your surfing and not several. Simplify it and allow yourself to see an improvement in one area.

The next best thing to do is to let go, don't bring stress into the ocean. Focus on having fun and trying to automatically repeat the muscle memory. Tension is the enemy of good technique and style.

I have been surfing for years and years, how do I replace my bad habits?

One at a time. The programs will help identify the bad habits, replace them and introduce a vital part of your training: trigger words. These are pattern interrupters that help you associate movement with words. As you say a trigger word and connect it to a movement, you are teaching your brain and body to repeat a movement based on that word. As you enter the surf, repeat these trigger words and slowly correct the bad habits.

Do I need any equipment to do the programs?

Most of the programs don't require equipment. Bosu Surfer requires a bosu ball or similar and surf skate programs require a surf skateboard. However you can start now without that impacting your training and get on in the future when you get to those programs.

How do I access the Surf Simple Community?

You will be given a login immediately after payment and you can access the community and programs via our community platform (community.ombe.co) or with our mobile app.

How do I get the OMBE Surf App and is it free?

Is there a difference between the App and the website?

Yes ombe.co is diffrent to our community.ombe.co site and app.

Can I repeat the programs?

Do I have access to the Surf Simple Community forever?

The Surf Simple subscription is based on an active membership but you can come and go as it suits your schedule and training.
