Designed for the average surfer, not pro's.

The training's focus is on understanding and developing the feeling and movement, it's not about doing numbers of reps.

It has the average surfer in mind, whether you're a beginner or advanced surfer, the program teaches you how to move, feel and understand those movements so you can apply them stress free out in the ocean. It's about simplifying your surfing. Do less, feel more.

The training is applicable to any level and the only difference is the rate at which you personally learn.

What the OMBE Community say

The Training Method

Each week you have a surf coaching structured plan, easy to follow land drills, guidance and a progression path with access to the OMBE deep dive library for reference.

Each week you’ll create small wins in your surfing, subtle changes and over the full 12 weeks, these wins will add up and create a lasting change in your surfing.

Every week builds off of the previous weeks training and continues to develop style, technique and confidence.

FAQ

What's included?

The Surf Smart program comes with the following included:

  • Surf Smart 12 Week Program
  • Insiders Community Access
  • 8 other training modules to follow the 12 Week Program

The other 8 training programs that we recommend to do after the 12 week program are:

  • The OMBE Method
  • Surf Psychology
  • Cardboard Surfer
  • Bosu Surfer
  • Surf Skate Foundations
  • Surf Skate Advanced
  • Ocean IQ
  • Catch More Waves

Is this the right program for my skill level?

We recommend all surfers to start on the 12 Week Program. This program heavily focuses on the fundamentals of surfing which are always an ongoing training to improve your surfing. This program will help break old habits and rebuild the foundations so that you can take your surfing to the next level.

Beginners will have less bad habits to fix and this will help you progress through the program faster.

Intermediates will have more confidence and be able to pick up new skills quickly but the power in the program comes in fixing and correcting bad habits and fostering good habits, technique and style.

What order should I do the programs in?

We recommend starting with the 12 Week Program and working through the guided pathway.

After the 12 Week Program, you will have identified some of your major weaknesses and what you need to focus on the most. You can then do one of the programs that focus on those issues or restart the 12 Week Program again.

Can I go at my own pace?

Some of the programs are set in weekly structures. These are only there to guide you as the fastest pace we recommend and do not need to be followed. You can slow down and go at your own pace, working on your weaknesses and moving on when you are ready.

Can I repeat the programs?

You can repeat all of the programs as many times as you like. They are designed with the idea that you will revisit them over time.

Do I have access to the program forever?

Yes, the program is yours for life.

How does the training work? What type of training is it?

The training is a mix of land-based and water-based training drills, as well as theory. The programs will walk you through the theory, establishing a why to all of your training, allowing you to understand what you will be training and how it impacts your surfing. The drills will establish the how, and show you how to exactly replicate the drills.

All of the drills will be accompanied by aiming for the feeling. This will explain when to know you are doing it right or if you need to keep working on the drill. The training is not set out as do X number of reps as everyones starting point and learning process is slower. It is all about do it until it feels natural.

What if I'm landlocked or only get to a beach every so often?

That is fine. all of the programs are created with that in mind. If a program includes water-based training, simply save it up until you have the chance to get to the beach.

How does the land-based training work? Shouldn't I just surf more?

The land-based training is designed to break patterns and add in the repetitions. This is vital in building the muscle memory and neurological pathways to learn and develop skills. The idea is by simulating surfing on land, we can rapidly develop these systems. When we enter the surf, we can further build upon them and allow our bodies to follow the muscle memory we have been training.

Yes, surfing is great but the amount of training in a 2-hour surf is minimal compared to 30 minutes of land training.

How does the water-based training fit in?

After you have been developing the muscle memory on land, you will need to start converting the training to replicating it in the water. The best way to do this is to set on focus and work on one change in your surfing and not several. Simplify it and allow yourself to see an improvement in one area.

The next best thing to do is to let go, don't bring stress into the ocean. Focus on having fun and trying to automatically repeat the muscle memory. Tension is the enemy of good technique and style.

I have been surfing for years and years, how do I replace my bad habits?

One at a time. The programs will help identify the bad habits, replace them and introduce a vital part of your training: trigger words. These are pattern interrupters that help you associate movement with words. As you say a trigger word and connect it to a movement, you are teaching your brain and body to repeat a movement based on that word. As you enter the surf, repeat these trigger words and slowly correct the bad habits.

Do I need any equipment to do the programs?

This program does utilise a bosu ball or similar style balance ball and a surf skateboard. You can get away without these to start and modify or hold off on certain training until you have one.

How do I access the Program?

You will be given a login and can either access the programs on our website or via our app.

Your progress in the program is synced between both platforms and you can jump between both.

How do I get the OMBE Surf App and is it free?

You can download the app to your phone, simply search for OMBE Surf via the app or play stores.

Download on Apple

Download on Android

Is there a difference between the App and the website?

No, the content is exactly the same. The only difference is how you view it.

Can I repeat the programs?

You can repeat all of the programs as many times as you like. They are designed with the idea that you will revisit them over time.

Do I have access to the program forever?

Yes, the program is yours forever.

What is the OMBE Community

The beating heart of OMBE is the community. We're proud to help a worldwide community of surfers at all stages of their surfing, get better and have more fun. Our ethos is to pay it forward and to do things differently, together.

I don't have social media, do you have your own platform?

We also need a detox from social media. We have everything within our own web and mobile apps.

What currencies can I pay in?
